The change in season has brought colder weather which means it’s time to rearrange our closets and bring out our winter clothes. Here is our guide on creating or buying basic fashionable autumn/winter staples this season.
Jumpers/sweaters
Jumpers are must have autumn/winter essentials. They are cozy and easy to wear as they can be worn with skirts, trousers, jeans and shorts. Get inspired by some of the celebrities on how they have worn their sweaters.
Rosie Huntington stepped out wearing indigo denim with a loose fitting oatmeal sweater and chocolate brown leather cowboy boots. Jennifer Garner & Alessandra Ambrosio wore bubblegum pink sweaters paired with scarves, jeans & flat shoes.
Leather jacket
Leather jackets are the heights of cool & classy this season and never go out of fashion. Always choose the right cut & size of a leather jacket and pair it with jeans, dresses or skirts.
Kate Holmes paired her Isabel Marant Bloomen studded quilted leather bomber jacket with black skinny jeans and a pair of black ballet shoes. The ever stylish Jessica Alba wore her fuchsia biker jacket with a black loose t-shirt, jeans and studded ankle boots. Olivia Wilde looked stunning in a sapphire-blue leather jacket which she paired it with a dress, sunglasses and emerald green pumps for a slick colour block look.
Layering
Autumn winter is all about layering and keeping warm. Layering is pretty easy as you only need to add depth to your style by mixing textures and colours. If you’re afraid of appearing huge start with lightweight tops (usually basic pieces), add a cardigan, and bring it all together with a sleek jacket and scarf. Danni Minogue layered a cosy black & cream jumper over a coat. She completed her look with slim fit blue jeans, chunky boots, red bag and a knitted hat with pom poms. Naomi Watt looked chic in a chunky black knit cardigan with a denim shirt dress, scarf, camouflage canvas bag and a pair of black ankle boots.
Blazers
Blazers are transitional piece to take you from season to season. They look great with a dress, blouse, trousers and even shorts. Create head turning style this autumn winter by wearing bold colours blazers.
Olivia Palemo wore a striped blazer with a pretty embellished dress, fuchsia clutch bag and bright orange flat shoes for a day look. Jessica Alba wore a pink-black & white painted blazer with a V-neck top, rhinestone tipped black pumps, sunglasses and boyfriend jeans. Kate Hudson looked stunning in beige pencil skirt with black panel which she wore with a black top, sparkly heels and a black cropped blazer at the Clinton Global Initiative 2013 Annual Meeting in New York City.
Boots
You will go a great length with your boots this season. From ankle boots to midi boots and over the knee or thigh high boots are iconic trend this autumn/winter. Pair then with skirts, tights, jeans or dresses and be guaranteed to look stylish in them.
Jessie J looked ready for autumn in a bright red coat with over the knee boots & black top & tights. Julianne Hough paired her tan suede boots with a woolly jumper and jeans for a stylish lunch look. Kimberley Walsh wore ankle boots with a rainbow coloured dress & black opaque tights for her book signing event.
Trenchcoat/mac
Lizzy Caplan wore a royal blue velvet Alberta Ferretti dress with embroidered appliqué black and blue flower adornment. She wore a near matching shiny blue knee length trench coat with frilled hemline over her dress and completed her look with sparkly deep gold Christian Louboutin.
Sofia Vergara flaunted her curves in a green & black dress which she paired with a khaki trench coat & black heels. Krysten Ritter looked sleek in blacky skinny jeans with leather ankle boots, scarf and a double breasted military style trench coat with gold button for a stylish cold weather look.
Coat/Jacket
It’s all about the outwear this season as the days & nights get cooler all we think about is how to keep warm. Wearing the right jacket/coat will make you stand out from the crowd. Experiment with fleece, tweed, wool and leather this AW13 not forgetting the pink hues coat that have been causing a buzz in the fashion world.
Holly Willoughby looked chic as she wrapped up warm in a Dalmatian-motif jumper with tailored camel wool coat and black skinny jeans, Hermes Birkin handbag & ankle boots. Fearne Cotton looked cool in a red & black check/plaid pattern coat which features faux leather lapels from her collection. She completed her look with a checkerboard style jumper, boyfriend jeans and silver heels with socks. Drew Barrymore wore a woolly cape with black & white herringbone pattern. She paired the cape with a long sleeved checked shirt, ripped jeans and black suede ankle boots. Lily Allen looked slick in a red pea coat which she teamed with cigarette pants, animal print peep toe heels and a red lipstick.
