Denim on denim
Denim-on-denim outfits have been trendy for several seasons now, and there are many ways to style denim-on-denim looks.
Here are some tips for styling double denim like a pro
Think tone-on-tone: Stick to similar washes of blue or go monochromatic by mixing and matching different textures/finishes within your outfit. Try a flattering wide-leg pant in a softer, bleached chambray matched back to a heavier wash distressed jacket for instance; playing with depth in this manner creates eye-catching visual interest without looking like a fashion faux pas.
Choose pieces that fit well; the jacket and jeans should both be at ease without being too baggy or big, as this can make the ensemble look sloppy. Instead, choose a tailored fit. If you’re wearing this during cool weather, layer up with a light sweater or button-up shirt underneath the denim jacket to offer warmth and texture. This also contrasts the all-denim appearance.
Shoes: Instead of wearing black boots with the entire ensemble, try mixing it up with other types of shoes like dressier loafers, oxfords, sneakers or even sandals. This increases diversity and intrigue.
Don’t go overboard with the accessories; keep them basic and understated so that the denim is the primary attraction. You may add a watch, a small crossbody bag, or a clutch handbag, but stay away from busy or jingly accessories.
Proportional: To create contrast and visual appeal, experiment with proportions by wearing one big piece (such as a slouchy jacket) with slim pants or the opposite. Use proportionate handbags or shoes to strike a balance.
Add a splash of colour: If going full blown country club while rocking a coordinating top-to-bottom denim ensemble feels intimidating- introduce one statement bright hue. A funky red scarf in the shape of a boomerang or a colourful leather belt never hurt anyone, and they also provide you a quick way to appear attractive whether you’re just running errands or going to a weekend brunch party.
