Hope y’all doing okay and having an amazing weekend so far. Last week I attended a convention dinner at the Liverpool Marriot Hotel. The event was organized by Voice of Nations an organization that aims to transform the lives and statues of less privileged and disadvantaged girls and women so they can become aware of their rights and full potential, and excel into positions of leadership and financial independence.
The event had two fashion shows, live music and a chance to network. I had a fabulous time and I got to meet some amazing people.
Belcro’s AfroSia collection
Erma Olierhoek is an Indonesian designer & creator of Afrosia collection. She’s also a dentist who graduated from the University ‘Prof. Moe-stopo’ dentistry faculty in Jakarta Indonesia and studied FashionDesign at ‘De la Salle’ college in Manila Philippines.
She started BELCRO company almost 10 years ago in Manila and has since showcased her collections in Europe, Asia and Africa.
Erma moved to Cameroon last year and started a new fashion line called “AfroSia” which means a combination of the two continents Africa and Asia. Specifically she draws her inspiration from the two rich cultures of Cameroon and Indonesia.
Erma Olierhoek says even though the two countries are different and located continent apart, they share many similarities. The smiles on people faces, the chillies ‘pigment’, vibrant music, dancing and sounds are all around. Erma finds many similarities in the styles of African and Asian prints or ‘batiks’. These similarities and diverse culture have greatly inspired the creation of Fusion Fashion style of AfroSia.
