BCBG MaxAzria spring/summer 2014 collection NYFW
BCBG MaxAzria SS14 collection was full of energy. His collection featured watercolor prints – juxtaposed masculinity and femininity for ‘a new perspective on tailored chic.’ The collection also featured light weight fabrics like cotton, linen, chambray, linen, poplin and chiffon shown in crisp whites, French blues and delicate floral prints in loose silhouettes. High waisted pants were paired with crop tuxedo style cotton twill shirt, skirts with thigh high slits, and white snake imprinted skirts with boxy top. Models strut their stuff on the catwalk carrying structured clutches and open-toe booties.
Prabal Gurung Spring/Summer 2014 collection NYFW
Prabal Gurung collection was built on ‘the idealized woman’ & transparency was the theme of his collection. His collection showed sheer sheath dresses with cut outs & harnesses, shirtdress, hand-embroidered red rose paired with a slim rose-painted pencil skirt & draped dresses with back ruffle. He said ‘they look at me perhaps as if I have 12 heads, you know,’. ‘I always say, “Look, if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out,’ but at least we have the satisfaction of trying.”‘
Rag & Bone Spring/summer 2014 collection NYFW
The collection proved that 90s themes such as flat forms & crop tops are here to stay. The collection featured sport luxe, fresh palette of whites & water colour of pink & turquoises. The summer dresses were made from light weight fabric, dungaree style jumpsuits, Bangkok pants, V neck sweaters & cricket jumpers paired with pants & skirts which promise to be huge next SS14. Rag & Bone’s latest accessories that will set the cash registers on fire – round white sunglasses and easy-to-walk-in booties and sandals are instant cool for the wearer – even if they aren’t a catwalk model.
Nicole Miller SS14 collection NYFW
Nicole Miller SS14 collection featured dresses with spider web pattern & sequin, patterned dress that look like Ankara fabric was used to make them, sheer & flowing dresses, leather vest, cropped top with matching skirt, monochrome prints, ripped jeans paired with jackets with shimmery details.
Jason Wu SS14 collection @ NYFW
Jason Wu set off to craft spring styles that emphasized ease. Jason Wu went for the feminine & romantic look in his collection. His designs featured sheer slip dresses, metallic/shimmer clothes, leather, corsetry incorporated on dresses & cargo pockets. We would have preferred to see more colours on his collection.
Victoria Beckham SS14 collection @ NYFW
Victoria Beckham’s spring/summer 2014 collection featured heavily on black & white. There were pop of colours such as burgundy & fuschia,& culottes are bound to be massive in SS14. Her spring summer collection did not have much of the sheath dress which her label is known for instead the collection had a more relaxed feel with minimal silhouettes shapes & ruffles. Some of the blouses & hags had geometric details on them. Mrs Beckham said: ‘I love a fitted dress but there’s a different side of me too that’s more relaxed but still sharp.’
Alexander Wang SS14 collection @ NYFW
His SS14 collection seemed uncharacteristic with crisp & clean looks. Wang featured crop tops, softer & pale palette & silhouette, sharp pleats & folds on skirts & dresses. Laser cut leather pieces & side splits.
Carolina Herrera SS14 collection @ NYFW
Carolina Herrara SS14 was inspired by kinetic art & elegance. she sent models down the catwalk wearing gowns made of chiffon, tulle, georgette & organza. Her collection offered a variation of theme from monochrome to geometric prints and optical illusion. Ms Herrera explained ‘the reaction of two layers, I find totally kinetic. It creates its own movement.’
Lacoste SS14 collection @ NYFW
For spring/summer 2014, Lacoste turned to geometry as inspiration for a collection of luxe sportswear in crisp white, blue and orange color blocking and sheer panels. Muted shades of blue and orange dominated the runway, with a serene finale of crisp white and translucent ensembles. Models also wore navy blue mini dress with stripes of sheer panel exposing the midriff & collar bones. Models wore beige sneakers, short sleeved baseball jacket for a sport luxe look.
Marc by Marc Jacobs SS14 @ NYFW
Marc by Marc Jacobs runways was dominated by eye-catching takes on the slouchy suit, with lapels covered in gold glitter, blouses in pastel color blocking, and silk scarves wrapped tightly around models’ necks. To add to the relaxed-casual vibe, each of the looks was worn with a pair of black or white sneakers, satin rompers in optical illusion prints. Sequin & embellishments played a large role on Marc by Marc Jacobs SS14 collection. From Marc’s show we can clearly say polka dots, pastels, stars & jumpsuit with converse trainers are going to be a big hit come spring/summer 2014.
Tommy Hilfiger SS14 collection @ NYFW
Tommy Hilfiger collection was surf inspired styles. Tommy said ‘It’s really from the inspiration of Melrose to Malibu, and we brought Malibu to New York. ‘It’s about surfing and skating, sporty lifestyles, about colour and the modern cool woman.’ He featured colour blocked neon pieces.
Donna Karan SS14 collection @ NYFW
Donna’s collection featured rich colours of tobacco, navy & terracotta, indigo colour viscose dresses, maxi skirt with thigh high slits, wraps skirts with silk tunics, blouses with fringe &scarf skirts. Karan said ‘It was all about a search for a scarf. I think as signature to what Donna Karan is about is a bodysuit and a scarf and the tailoring.’ She had spied a scarf she fell in love with and it took her on a journey to India – and she came back with a suitcase full of new ones. ‘If somebody would say to me, “What’s the most important item to own?” It’s a scarf … because it covers up what you don’t want to show, and it shows what you want to show, and it just flows with the body.’
Phillip Lim SS14 collection @ NYFW
Lim said he was inspired to explore ‘different terrains, landscapes and rocks’ in search of ‘something stable, sturdy and elementary to stand on.’ The models strut their stuff in flat shoes while some of them were carrying handbags.
Derek Lam SS14 collection @ NYFW
His collection had urban edge & playful vibe to it. The models wore bright yellow maxi dress; yellow crepe strapless gown came in sharp contrast to the series of bold plaids, in black and white or blue and white, that began the show. Lam said ‘My work has always been rooted in American sportswear. So I’m just loosening it up, relaxing a bit’.
Edun SS14 collection @ NYFW
The collection was heavy on black-and-white pieces in bold geometric prints: skirts, coats, roomy pants and short tanks over longer, flowing tops. There were also some large, soft gray sweaters, sportswear in bright orange and leather pieces in white, black and a rich cayenne colour.
Ralph Lauren SS14 collection @ NYFW
Ralph Lauren went for the classic American glamour in his spring/summer collection. He focused on clean lines & neon colours, sheath dresses, tailored overcoats, charmeuse gowns in bright colours. He also inclined sixties inspired accessories like mary-jane shoes, knee-socks, and structured bags.
Proenza Schouler SS14 collection @ NYFW
‘Texture plays a prominent role,’ explained McCollough, 34, and Hernandez, 35, who presented tissue suede dresses, silk crêpe tops, gold finely pleated silk knits and matching cloqué skirt suits. There was even a little bit of body armor in the form of a cast copper crop top. Proenza focused on a sense of movement & ease & the collection featured gold pleats, culottes, minimalist silhouettes, black and white fiber print on multilayered suits and dresses, wide leg pants, wooden wedges, & leather sandals.
Jenny Packham SS14 collection at NYFW
Jenny Packham provided a catwalk full of glitters & glam worth to be worn by the princess and the red carpet events. Warm colors like rust, burgundy, and blush pink gave off a Seventies vibe; while high necks with prairie silhouettes, collar embellishments, and ruffles around the edges played off the film’s Edwardian costumes. High-wasted wide-leg silk pants were paired with a delicately beaded top an alternative for evening.
