Masculine or androgynous
Masculine or androgynous looks are hottest fashion trends of the moment. This trend was spotted on the runways as fashion designers decided to send models down the runway wearing masculine blazers, men’s tailored inspired pants, oversized cardigans & sweaters.
The key to pulling off this menswear is to incorporate them with feminine pieces and accessories, think masculine-feminine look. I personally have a few menswears in my wardrobe that I love to wear with my feminine pieces, and I am always in the look out for stylish men’s clothes that fit my style.
When buying menswear we suggest you go for smaller sizes as men tend to have more muscles compared to women.
A belt is essential to nip at the waist to define your figure otherwise tuck them in.
Here are a few ways on how to borrow/incorporate menswear into your wardrobe
Sweaters/cardigans – this is a great place to start off. Men’s sweaters/cardigans are comfortable and can be worn loose or belted with skinny jeans or leggings. Naomi Watts borrowed an oversized light grey cardigan from her husband. The actress paired the loose cardigan with black & silver sneakers, white button down shirt, sunglasses, canvas bag and manly trousers for menswear-inspired look. Diane Kruger loves to borrow clothes from her boyfriend Joshua Jackson. The actress wore Joshua’s Aztec print cardigan to grocery run and paired it with a pair of white Wayfarer sunglasses, a white top, white bag, grey tights and printed sneakers.
Shirts: men’s shirts can also be worn with leggings, skinny jeans or tucked into a skirt for a stylish classy look. If you decided to wear an oversize men’s shirt just remember to pair it with a belt so as to define your waist. I wore men’s plaid shirt, black bermuda shorts, statement necklace and polka dot heels.
Shoes: Men inspired shoes can be teamed up with your outfit. Shoes like loafers, brogues, monk shoes and slippers look great for a dressed down look.
T-shirts –you can’t go wrong by wearing men’s t-shirt with other pieces from your wardrobe such as skirts, shorts, jeans or leggings. I paired a white men’s t-shirt with a printed pencil skirt & a pair of snake skin heels.
Trousers – When it comes to trousers think high waisted tailored pants, straight fit, chinos, pleated pair and boyfriend jeans that can be paired with blouses and tops.
Suspenders: Suspenders look great when worn with a t-shirt or shirt. Wear them with jeans or shorts for a borrowed from the boys look.
Bow ties & tuxedo jackets – bow tie |& tuxedo jacket will transform your outfit to masculine look in a matter of seconds. Angelina Jolie showed us how it’s done when she wore a form fitting Saint Laurent smoking tux jacket with matching black trousers with side stripe, pointy toe patent heels, undone bow tie and unbuttoned white shirt at the BAFTA awards for a relaxed elegant look. Kelly Osbourne paired her polks dot bow tie with a black velvet blazer with matching trousers, white buttoned up shirt, black heels and slick bag hair for a more formal look.
