Hummus or houmous is a popular Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dip or spread made from cooked mashed chickpeas which are high in protein and fibre. Below is a quick and simple way on how to make houmous/hummus in the comfort of your own kitchen.
You’ll need
- Tinned chickpeas or dried chickpeas
- Garlic
- Olive oil
- Lemon juice
- Ground cumin
- Chilli flakes (optional)
- tahini (light toast some hulled sesame seeds in medium heat and place them in a food processor until a cream paste is formed. Add oil such as avocado/grape seed oil until smooth and creamy.

-If you’re using dried chickpeas make sure you boiled them until soft before making the houmous/hummus.
-In a food processor or blender whizz together the tinned chickpeas with garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, ground cumin, tahini and chilli flakes until smooth.
-Serve with pitta bread or as a dip with celery or carrot sticks.
