Mixing & matching prints
Mixing & matching prints is chic, stylish and versatile. This trend allows you to experiment with different prints/patterns in your closet. This trend gives you endless option to pattern mixing and let you show your creative side. Don’t be afraid to play around with patterns and textures.
If you’re new to mixing prints start by mixing same or close colour family together for a well put ensemble e.g. if you’re wearing a red and white striped top you can team it with a floral skirt with a red colour in it.
You can pair your printed accessories (shoes, bags, headpieces, belts) with your outfit. This is a great way of mixing prints instead of going all out with the entire outfit.
Once you have built up your confidence you can branch out and start pairing items in complementary/opposite colours together. See the colour wheel here on how to pair different colours together.
Large and small prints look great together and won’t overwhelm the onlookers. The small print against the larger one creates a balance and gives a beautiful contrast
It’s advised to wear two different prints at the same time but if you’re a fashion forward individual you can wear prints head to toe for a statement look.
Stripes prints are like neutral toned print and go with almost anything. Stripes are easy to mix with other prints/pattern; they look great with floral, bright colours, animal prints, graphic print polka dots etc.
How to wear striped and polka dots prints
Pair a striped top with a polka dot shorts, statement necklaces and converse for a day look or throw in heels for an evening look. Wear a polka dot skirt with a floral tank top, striped clutch and nude heels for a statement three print look. Wear striped pants with a polka dot blouse, long necklace and ballet shoes for a day out shopping.
Jessica Hart wore a black and white striped top with a pair of satin yellow polka dots pedal pushers, and beige platform wedges for a stylish look at NYFW
