Tips & Techniques on How to Wear Make up with a Face Mask

Wearing face masks is the new norm, and it can be a bit tricky to wear a full face coverage make up under the mask. If you want to wear make up you will need to find long lasting make up that won’t transfer into your mask. When it comes to wearing masks and make up make sure you wear hydrating, lightweight, transfer-resistant foundations which will blend in with your complexion and won’t rub off all over the mask when your face comes into contact with.

Since the masks covers half of your face, we suggest doing up your eyes and eye brows, to draw attention away from your face mask. If you decide to go barefaced don’t forget to moisturise your face.

Types of long lasting foundation to try

Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation: Waterproof foundation that offers full coverage and is super pigmented.

Maybelline New York Super Stay Full Coverage Foundation: Oil free foundation that gives natural looking coverage without transferring to your clothes.

Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation: With the transfer proof foundations you only need a tiny drop for medium to full coverage and once applied, it stays on until you wash your face.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation: Comes in a variety of shades and once applied, it doesn’t rub off. Apply the foundation using either a make-up brush or sponge for best results.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation: This foundation gives you a flawless natural finish that won’t transfer to your clothes or masks.

Too Faced Peach Perfect Comfort Matte Foundation: It’s a transfer resistant foundation that gives a medium-coverage. It’s perfect for those with oily skin as it helps control oil without feeling heavy and stays on the whole day.

Step by step technique on how to make your make up last long under a face mask

  1. Moisturise your face to your specific skin type.
  2. Apply setting powder to prevent the need for baking, opt for weightless powder such as Laura Mercier translucent setting powder
  3. Apply the setting spray for your skin tone opt for a weightless setting spray that has no shimmer, texture or coverage such as Urban decay “De-slick” all nighter setting spray. Setting spray provide another layer of protection without adding any weight to your skin hence keeping your make up on for longer and will also make the powder less dry.
  4. Apply primer with your finger tips e.g. Tatcha silk canvas or Milk hydro grip primer
When you apply primer over the powder and the setting spray it makes it more effective.
By doing the above technique you’re able to reduce texture rather than adding texture.
  5. Apply concealer e.g. Nars radiant creamy concealer (no foundation)
  6. Then apply your long lasting foundation e.g: Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation or Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation
  7. If you get shiny on the t-zone, apply a bit of powder around the noise and in the centre of the forehead
  8. Finish with setting spray
