Rihanna once again has teamed up with River Island for a brand new Autumn/Winter 2013 collection after the success of her spring/summer collaboration. The singer has revealed her second River Island collection via a behind the scene clip. Looking from this video clip we can see a mix of urban chic, bomber jackets, floral pieces, camouflage pieces, ankle strap heels, sweat shirts and cropped tops.
According to a statement from River Island, the A/W collection will feature: “Metallic, tartan, camouflage, floral, stripes, denim leathers and other high shine fabrics like vinyland wet look are used cohesively. Soft jersey maxi’s, leather bra tops, bomber jackets, camouflage over the knee boots, mesh dresses, beanies, cropped hoodies and underwear with a carefully put together colour palette balance the contrast of hard and soft in the range. “Embossed leather jackets and trousers, printed camo snakeskin leather skirts and boots make up the Limited Edition Collection of which only 100 of each item have been made.”
According to Selman “We had a lot more fun this time round. The first collection was a lot purer, about finding pieces that Rihanna felt were missing from her closet. There is a real concept to this one. I can’t give too much away, but we travel so much and experience so much of the world. We’re very lucky to do so and that definitely inspired us. The idea of sports uniforms and masculine vs feminine is something we evolved from last season too. There was a lot of pressure with our debut – this felt more relaxed.” He also added that designing for winter was a little bit challenging for the duo as they both grew up in sunny climates (i.e Rihanna Barbados and Selman California).
He said “The way I approach winter style is to layer up summer clothes and Rihanna does the same. But there are coats and sweatshirts – those pieces were key. It’s a little more refined.”
“Rihanna said of the collaboration: “I can’t wait for the fashion press and my fans to see my AW13 collection for River Island, I want to wear everything now and that’s such a great feeling!” It has not been revealed yet if Rihanna will be showcasing the collection during London Fashion Week in September. The collection will arrive in stores on September 12.
The campaign photographs were shot by New York-based photographer, Lachlan Bailey, who has previously worked for Dior, Fendi and Burberry among others & were styled by Mel Ottenberg and the shoot was personally overseen by the singer.
