I did this DIY a while ago and though I should share it here with you guys. This DIY is a step by step guide on how to recycle your old/new pants into shorts. I bought this pair of jeans a few years back and I have never worn them due to them being a little bit short.
These are the things you will need to do this project: jeans/pants, pair of scissors, tape measure, sewing machine/thread & needle, razor blade (if you want distressed shorts).
- You will have to measure yourself using a tape measure (how long you want your shorts to be) and note down the measurement. If you don’t have a tape measure, you can use another pair of shorts that you already have as a sample and place over your pants pants/jeans to get the length you want.
- Spread out your pants/jeans and mark the length you want your shorts to be using chalk and leave at least 2 inches for seam allowance.
- Cut out the marked area using sharp scissors. To make it easier after you have cut the first leg, place it over the full leg and cut out, this will help you to get the same length as the other leg.
- Use your sewing machine to sew the hem in place. I decided to add cuffs on my pair of short. If you can’t be bothered to sew your shorts you can wear them by folding the loose ends to form a cuff without hemming them. I used razor blade to create the distressed look.
- What do you guys think about my pair of distressed shorts?
